Why choose EPC

Heat pump servicing in plain English

A service should give you clear answers.

A heat pump is part of a wider heating system. We look beyond the outdoor unit to check the accessible controls, pressure, filters and connected equipment that affect comfort and performance.

After the visit, you receive a record of what was checked and practical advice on anything that needs attention.

Ask about your system
01

Annual service visit

EPC checks the outdoor unit, controls, heating pressure, filters, visible pipework and connected equipment that forms part of your heat pump system.

02

Performance and settings check

The visit includes a practical review of how the system is running, including controls, schedules, comfort issues and anything you have noticed at home.

03

Fault check and repair advice

If the system is noisy, underperforming, showing a fault code or losing pressure, EPC explains the likely issue and the next repair route.

04

Service record and clear advice

You receive a clear record of what was checked, what looks healthy and whether any follow-up work, parts or monitoring is recommended.

What’s involved

What EPC checks during a residential heat pump service.

The exact checklist depends on the manufacturer and system type, but EPC focuses on the areas that affect comfort, performance and reliability: airflow, pressure, controls, filters, connected equipment and a clear record of work.

  • Visual inspection of the outdoor unit and accessible components

  • Check outdoor clearances, airflow and coil condition

  • Check controls, thermostat operation and user settings

  • Check heating pressure, visible leaks and expansion vessel condition where accessible

  • Clean or check filters and strainers where fitted and accessible

  • Check hot-water cylinder and magnetic filter where applicable

  • Review fault history or homeowner-reported issues

  • Service record and practical advice before the engineer leaves

A service record and practical next steps are included. If extra work or parts are needed, EPC will explain them before anything additional is done.

Frequently asked questions

The practical details, answered clearly.

Still have a question? Ask EPC
How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Most residential heat pumps should be serviced once a year, or in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. Annual servicing is commonly required to maintain warranty cover and helps keep the system running efficiently.

How much does heat pump servicing cost?

As a guide, many residential air-source heat pump services sit in the region of £150–£300 depending on location, brand, system type, access and what is included. EPC confirms your price before the visit is booked.

How long does a heat pump service take?

A straightforward service may take around one to three hours depending on the system and access. If there is a fault, pressure issue, glycol check or connected-cylinder work, the visit may take longer.

Can EPC repair my heat pump if something is wrong?

EPC can help identify the likely issue and advise on repair options. Some repairs depend on brand, parts availability, warranty status and whether the manufacturer needs to be involved.

Will servicing keep my warranty valid?

Many manufacturers require annual servicing by a competent engineer and a completed service record. EPC can provide service paperwork, but the exact warranty rules depend on your manufacturer and installer documents.

Do I need to do anything between services?

Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, bins, snow and garden debris; do not block airflow; keep an eye on pressure or fault messages; and call for advice if performance changes.

Do you service air-to-water and air-to-air systems?

This residential service is mainly for air-source heat pump systems. The right route depends on whether your system is air-to-water, air-to-air, hybrid, or connected to a hot-water cylinder, so EPC confirms compatibility when you enquire.

What information should I send before booking?

Send your postcode, heat pump brand and model, system age, last service date, photos of the outdoor unit and controller, and any fault codes or symptoms. This helps EPC recommend the right visit.

Your next step

Tell us about your system. We will help you plan the visit.

Our initial advice and quote are free. Share your postcode, heat pump details and any issue. EPC will confirm the appropriate visit and its price before booking; the service visit itself is not free.
